NELSON JOGKET CLUB.
A meeting of the committee of the Nelson Jockey dub" was held at Messrs Rout and Sons' rooms on Saturday evening. The president (Mr J. H. Firiney) was in the chair, and there were present Messrs J. A. Stringer, R. Hun£er 5 JHagen, J. Coleman," J. Wadswortk, C. HaKßitt, J. E. Bartlett, D, Orushek, and F. G. Edwards. . •. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs M. P. Webster and H. Bai- j gent. ~ I Acknowledgments of sympathy were received from Messrs Newman and Crushek. The question of the appointment of an J assistant judge was discussed, and it' was resolved that Mr G. W. Best be asked to accept the position. A draft of the proposed railway timetable for the three days' racing was received. The matter was left to the president to endeavour to get thedeparment to make the evening trains from Uiehmond half an hour later. It was resolved to'start the first race at 12.5 p.m. each day, and that the Mayor be requested to invite shopkeepers to close their premises at 11 a.m. on each day. The president reported that he had interviewed the acting-manager of the Union Company in regard to delaying the departure of the Pateena from Nelson on the Saturday until the evening, and he had reason to believe that the request would he acceded to. The president and Messrs M P Webster, H. Baigent, F. O. Hamilton," aud J. Wadsworth were elected the Judicial Committee.
It was decided to admit incapacitated and undischarged soldiers to the course free of charge, the secretary to the R.S.A. to be asked to issue tickets to tnose entitled to same under the conditions, r
It was reported that the privileges sold that day by Messrs Cann and Waiter had realised the following amounts • Inside booth, £101, to Wi. Horrocks: ontside booth, £86, to J. Hawthron' Ihe rights for the luncheon booth and refreshment stall were being disposed of privately. It was explained that the amounts covered all privileges for the trotting meeting as well. • 2?!f question of engaging a band was left to the president and Mr Crushek It was resolved to ask Mr J. F Hardey to again assist the clerk oS thecourse at the meeting. Mr Hagen reported that the work of making the straight seven-furlon« start was nearmg completion. The crass on the course had been cut, and it was now ia excellent order.
It v. as resolved that only members' cars be allowed inside the course opposite the grandstand, and that all others be parked under the trees on the west sKle of the entrance gate, for vehicles. : iJie entrance for pedestrians will be I near the big gum tree. The secretary (Mr J. Glen) wrote tendering his resignation, to take effect trom July "31st. The president expressed regret that Mr Gien felt that the time had come tor him to resign the position of secretary which he had filled to the entire sa*"fa«*lon of *fi© club since 1894 Mr Glen said that he had seen 'many changes since he took over the secretaryship, and of the original committee only three members were alive to-day viz Dr Fearless, Messrs J.
