The House of Commons read the second time the Bill reducing the fineness of. silver coinage. Mr Chamberlain explained the reason for the enhanced price of silver, which ■"TiiS .°-Rd in 191 •'i- and is vow over 88d. He sf.id it would probably be a long time before there Avas a ret\trn to the ■**re-war level. M>r Chamberlain reipcted a prop^sol to abolish threepenny pieces, f<»r which there was a great de-in-md. The Treasury has smaller notes, which $u'f> nnrlr><?irable, but must be is«-«-ued if the Bill now before the House is not passed.
