ARRIVAL OF PROFESSOR
EASTERFIELD
(From "The Colonist,".Nov. 28th.) j Professor Easterfield, who was re-! cently appointed Director of the Caw- ! thron Institute, arrived in Nelson yesterday morning. Later in the day he was met by the Trustees, and the chairman (the Bishop of Nelson) extended him a welcome. In the afternoon the Director, in company with the Trustees, paid a visit to the site of the proposed i Institute at Annesbrook. It is under- ! stood that, owing; to the cost of mater- ! ials and the scarcity of labour 3 building operations will not be gone on with just yet, 'but it is intended to commence the work of the Institute early in January in temporary premises, to be rented. My. RigK, agricultural chemist of tho Institute, is expected to arrive in December from America, where he has been visiting and inspecting scientific "resoarclr institutes. Mr. liigg will inaugurate the work. -,6wing to prior engagements in Wei-j -Ifrigtoiv Professor Eastern eld ' will be! unable to take up his permanent resi-1 clence here until "April or May of next" .j.sar. He will, however, pay frequent visits to Nelson as may %be reguifM in connection with the preliminary work of th'einstitute. . -—.
