;(Erom "The .Colonist," Dec. 3rd.) At the .Nelson Harbour Board meeking yesterday,.Mr. F. 0. Hamilton moved that .the Board appoint a consulting .engineer, to. furnish a scheme oi harbour improvement to enable , large steamers to load produce at Nelson for the world* markets. In the course of his remarks .lie said that it was estimated that .-shortly there would be at least 500,000 cases, of apples to be. exported .annually. This would give a revenue of £35,000 in, wharfage alone, and would xequire 18 to 20 steamers, the pilotage .dues for which would amount to sonic thousands pi pojuKts. The work jvas-of urgent importance Mr H. B. Jackson seconded the motion, and said the sooner they. got the harWux iniproveme&t and increased accommodation the better. ;, The chairman (Mr. ,H. R: Duncan) in supporting the motion, said it was urgently ' necessary .that cool stores should also be .erected *t the Port .in .order that fruit might,be.,expeditious:<y loaded irlien boats, came. Mr"A P, Allport also advocated the erection of eool'stores at .Port Nelson. " Mr. A. Gould said the fruit industry ™-omised to be one of the .staple industries of Nelson, and they .should do fi\'?,vythirf| to support it. . The motion was carried unanimously. It was then resolved that Mr. Cyrus Williams, engineer to the Lpteiton Harbour Board, be invited to-cowo to Nelson and confer with the Board with regard to his possible appointment as .consulting engineer. ,
