The twenty-seventh annual show of the Nelson Agricultural and Pastoral Association opened on the Association's ground, Richmond Park, yesterday, untter propitious conditions, the weather being hne, and the heat tempered by a light breeze, making things very pleasant for those who attended; and we were pleased to see that the attendance was considerably larger than is usual on the first day."
As the comments on the various sections indicate, there are weaknesses apparent in some classes, and it is to be deplored that there were no entries at all for some breeds of animals, but it has to be borne iv mind that conditions are far from normal in regard to the farming industry generally, and the seasons have been abnormally dry throughout the year. The latter fact has told more particularly against the stock classes. However, there is no occasion to be apologetic with regard to the show, which is a good one. There is n, satisfactory maintenance jof quality in regard to the more important classes of exhibits, and the value of the Association's work to those most directly concerned is fully demonstrated.
The various officials of the Association have worked hard to make the show a success, and the general public have small idea of how much time these gentlemen devote to the public interest in this connection; The president and the secretary were most assiduous in attention to the duties of their respective offices. The presence of Mr. W. R. May on the ground gave pleasure to a large number of his friends and former associates. For a long period Mr. May was the honorary treasurer and an enthusiast in promoting the welfare of the Association.
