At the Maitai bowling green on Saturday'afternoon, Mr S. F. Sherwood, who hold the position of secretary of the^ club for eight years, was presented by* the members with a case of pipes and tobacco and a walking stick, as a slight recognition of the services he had rendered the club. The presentation was made by the president (Mr E. Cann), whose laudatory remarks were supplemented by the vice-president (Mr G. Logan) and Mr "W. Dee. Regret was expressed that owing to increased pressure of work Mr Sherwood was unable
to continue the secretaryship. Mr Sherwood suitably acknowledged the gifts, and he was accorded three hearty cheers.
A very pleasant surprise compliment, says the Inangahua "Times," was paid by members of the Murchison Racing Club to Mr J. Noble, who has successfully acted as hand'icapper for their annual meetings, when the President of the club forwarded a letter
thanking Mr Noble for his good work and asking his acceptance of a beautiful gold-mounted fountain pen, suitably engraved, from the Murchison, Eacing Club.
