At tho meeting of the I Nelson. Education Board, held on iWoriday, Mr F. "W. 10.- Smitli presiding, accounts totalling £11,022 7s 7d wero passed for payment. Additional giants under the Amendment Act of last Session, for general purposes and allowances to School Committees were notified by the department, ac was also a refund of £57 10s incurred in connection withthe replacement of a teacher by a returned soldier teacjher. It was agreed to Represent the need of instituting some desirable form of technical instruction, especially in horticulture, and it was resolved" to approach the Agricultural and Education Departments to co-operate in provisions for adequate tuition in this and other allied subjects. Proposals for instruction in-domestic-science and woodwork subjects at Motueka and Takaka and the country districts generally , were approved subject to , expenditure being refunded by the department. Tho Nelson School Committees' Association wrote with reference to the need of making provision for larger school sites in order that instruction in rural pursuits might be adequately provided] for.—lt was resolved to secure a return j of areas of existing school sites, with a view to considering individual cases. It was recommended, inter alia, that repairs and improvements be effected to Reef ton School buildings at a cost of £400, and/a rebuilding programme commenced shortly on a new site. In connection' with the proposed enlargement of Motueka Side School it was resolved to forward copies of Inspector's report to the committee. The Nelson Committee drew attention 'to the unsuitability of the site of the rl avert Road School, and-an offer of a site on Halifax and Waimea streets was made by a firm of • land agents.—Res' ceivod.

Eyles, Tapawera, and the position of head teacher. Little Grey, to Miss E. Walshe. The Rockville arid Kaituna Schools are to be amalgamated and tht committee consulted on the appointment of Mr E. J. Wills as head teacher. Collingwood or Dovcdale, sole charge, Mr S.^F. Morris and Miss M. Cropp; Sunny side, Miss C. Hunter to be transferred from Upper Takaka; Fern Flat, Miss J. Moffatt; Ferntown, Mr P. V. MeNabb; Hamama, Mir, Kedgley; Paruwhakaho, Miss,E. Bastin; Longford, Miss F. 'Kitto; Kaituna, assistant, Miss H. Freeman; Motueka, assistant, R. Loveridge, H.-F. S. Silcoek, or V. Sathevley; Millerton, assistant, Mrs M. A. Tooley; Foxhill, assistant, Miss X M. Underwood. Other vacancies are to be filled as opportunity offers. It was resolved to approach the Fu'blic Health Department on the question of employing health inspectors as truant officers, i . , ~ „ The demand for special fees tor scholarship candidates at smaller centres is to be made tho subject of protest to the department.
