Referring to Mr. Ryan's entrance into Federal politics in Australia, a contemporary says: "Mr Ryan has adopted ary says:—"Mr. Ryan has adopted 'profiteering' as his election slogan, and ho is bound to enlist the sympathy of thousands of people who are making a desperate fight for existence. Profit* eering appears to be rampant in all parts of the British Empire. But it is not alone responsible for the high cost of living. The workers are largely respon- | sible. They have adopted the insane policy of demanding increased wages for reduced production. This policy is morally and economically wrong, and i until it is abandoned there can be no hope for an improvement in the domestic conditions.. The man who exploits the community by charging excessive prices for his goods is no worse than the , man who exploits his fellows by chnr^ ing more for his labour than it is actually worth."
