Christchurch, Oct. 29. Tiie Board of Trade has recommended to the Minister of Customs that the embargo on the shipment of potatoes abroad be lifted until November loth. The Board of xrade had a, conference with members of- the Boot Manufacturers' Association regarding the board s footwear proposals. Various points arising out of the scheme were inlly di-.cussed, and at the close of the con--fcreneco several of those .present gare notice of their intention to apply immediately for licenses to manufacture. Tliis 'however, does not mean that the manufacturers will commence work on footwear at once, as they have commitments in hand which will keep them busy until the end ot the year, but it is expected that early next year stocks ot boots will be available tor retailers.
