«, It At the Nelson School of Music Jast j evening the celebrations in connection with the Baptist Sunday School were ■ j continued. The hall was again fuJl.! ( The Rev. John Laird opened the meet-jj ing with prayer. The superintendent (Mr Thomas Pettit) presided overt' the gathering. ] In his opening address he referred to tiie , happy circumstances under which they. < met,'as compared with' the past live ( anniversaries, when they were under thej1 cloud of war. He trusted all would en- } ter upon the new year with greater en- - tlmsiasm and zeal than before the war. , The annual report was presented by i, Miss Thomson (secretary). The nuniber of scholars on the roll was as fol- ] lows:—Boys 99, girls 140; total, 239. ; Teachers : Nine ladies,, seven gentlemen. Four prizes and nine certificates were j gained in the Sunday School Scripture examination; and two prizes and nine ( certificates in the Baptist Union oxa-{ mination. The-Senior Young Women's, Bible Class, under Miss Baigent, has a' ( membership of 14.. The Young Men's i, Bible Class has heen re-opened, under; the leadership of Mr Cullen. The infant, department, conducted by Mr and Mrs; H. Wood, is a special feature of the', school work. One scholar was removed • by death (Esther Robertson). Forty ■ young men who had passed through the I school enlisted and saw active service.! ] Five made the supreme sacrifice.- The school contributed the sum of £35 Us towards foreign mission /work. The report concluded with thanks to those ; who had assisted to make tae anniver- ' sary services a success, special mention '. being made of Mr A. E. Wood (eon- - ductor) and Mr John Tait (organist).
