A RACECOURSE TRANSACTION
GIFT TO PARTY FUNDS

Sydney, Oct. 14. At the wheat inquiry, in connection with evidence regarding the financial position of Mr Grahame, Minister for Agriculture, the question of the payment of a large sum of money for the lease of the Kensington racecourse cropped up. Mr Griffiths, who was Minister for Works at the time of the lease, in evidence said that according fco stories then current, one or two thousand pounds, allegedly from the racecourse people, had through Mr Grahame, the party whip, been handed to Mr Holman for the party funds. Mr Griffiths said tin saw Mi wuunan. and insisted on the money being returned or he would leave the Cabinet.
Mr Holman, in evidence, said Mr Grahame handed him an envelope containing £1000 for tho party funds. He TTiT noZ know from what source it came. The matter was reported to the Cabinet, and after inquiry it was decided not to accept the money, which was returned.
