12TH REGIMENT BAND.

ANNUAL MEETING. TheannuaVmeeting of the 12th (NeJson and Marlborough) Regiment Band was held in the bandroom on July 24th Lieutenant T. H. Hughes; the "bandmaster, being in the chair. The secretary, in his report, stated inter aha:—This year, like a few previous ones, has .not at all been eventful as far as the band is concerned owing to the New Zealand Brass Band Association postponing all contests till after the termination of the war. The band were well represented at the war having had about 20 men enter camp' most of whom have been in the firing( line, three having made the supreme sacrifice. The band regret losing the I services of Bandsmen W. Bishop N [Ellis and G. Hart, but have.much pleasure in welcoming to their ranks Bandsmen R. Simpson, H. Oakley, and A Cotton; and E. Beveridge, W. Grant W. Reed, C. Webley and C. Guy, who have returned after having been in the military training camps, and also Bandsmen A.. McConchie, C. Ricketts T. Hardie and G. Oldershaw, who have been away on active service: The band went out carolling on Christmas Day and had a record taking, which" proved that.the band have not at all lost favour with the public. The band played out 35 times during the year being mostly for patriotic purposes! The band have not given a single conj cert for their own funds during the I year. It.is, however, interesting to j note that since the outbreak of the j European crisis to the present time the ! band have played out no less than 129 j times, mostly for patriotic purposes j and other functions in connection with j the war, and have donated by their own i efforts close on £200 to tne different j patriotic funds. Only 17 concerts for I the band's own funds were given. The j annual picnic and sports which were to |.have been held at Hanby Park on j Anniversary Day had to be postponed owing to the inclemency of the weather. It is with deep regret that the committee have to record the death of two of our bandsmen during the year—j Bandsmen A. V. King and H. Hart. I Letters of condolence and artificial! wreaths were sent to the relatives of both deceased. The committee offer their congratulations to Bandmaster T H. Hughes, who has received notice of his promotion to the rank of first lieutenant. The committee would like to point out that now the war has terminated and things are coming back to pre-war times, and the band have members returning from the front, -\> is up to every member to assist the conductor to bring the band up to a high state of efficiency by attending practice regularly. A vote of thanks was passed to the secretary for his report. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed the band to be in a fair financial position. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Secretary and treasurer. Sergeant H. Wimsett (re-elected); cus- . todian, Bandsman J. Pogmore; committee, Lieutenant T. H. "Hughes. Sergeant H. Wimsett, CorporaMV. Lock Bandsmen W. Grant and G. A. Day. It was decided to purchase enlarged photographs of the three Land members killed in action, and that the photographs be hung in the bandroom. Jiie question of a now uniform was left in the hands of the incoming committee to consider ways and means.
