The Minister of Defence (Sir James Allen) lias received from the members of the Religious Objeotors Advisory Board (the lievs. J. R.. Burgin and J. G. Chapman and Mr M. J. Mack) a letter in whicli they record their appreciation ot the courtesy and consideration shown to them by the head of the Prisons Department nnd his staff during their recent investigations. "Everjy opportunity was given us," they state, "to investigate all premises where prisoners vv-ore lodged, etc, and the nature and quality of the food supplied. In every instance the quarters were scrupulously clean, the food plain but good and although we mixed with the prisoners not a single complaint was received. Wo ivere also struck with the o-ood -reports and impartiality with which the'various gaolers testified .when reviewing 'thn.
