NELSON AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

BRANCH FORMED AT RICHMOND

DANGEROUS RAILWAY CROSS-

INGS

(From "The Colonist," March 20th.)

A well-attended meeting of motorists was held. at Richmond last night with the object of forming a branch of the recently constituted Nelson Automobile Association. The vice-presi-dent (Mr C. R; Fell) and the secretary (Mr T. E. Maunsell) went out to lay before the meeting the aspirations of the association.

The chair was taken by Mr W. E. Wilkes, Mayor of Richmond, who, in opening the meeting, announced that he had had the honour to be elected a vice-president of the association. This, said Mr Wilkes, he considered not only to be an honour to himself, but a compliment to Richmond motorists.

Mr Maunsell then addressed the meeting, and explained the necessity for the Association, and also its aims and objects on the same lines as his speech in Nelson previously. His remarks were ably supplemented by Mr Fell, and as a result all present agreed to add their names to the association, 29 new members being secured. Subsequently during a general discussion on local matters affecting motorists several members took the opportunity to -comment adversely on the failure of engine-drivers to blow their whistles at railway crossings, and a fair amount of criticism was levelled at the ■ dangerous state of several crossings. The secretary promised to place both matters before the general committee of the association, stating that he felt confident that some definite action would be taken almost immediately.

The following were selected^to represent the Richmond branch on the general committees-Messrs J. A. Mitchell, F. Lusty and G. Kidd.
