i The grave of Dr Andrew St. Clair, arearly New Zealand botanist, has been found in the bed of the Rangitata Rivei (says the "Lyttelton Times"). He was horn in Scotland, and arrived in New Ziealand seventy-seven years ago as a surgeon in the Royal Navy. He was appointed secretary to Captain R. Titzroy, the second Governor of New Zealand, and later, the Imperial Government appointed him Colonial Secretary to the Government, a position he held until the colony was given responsible government in 1856. He spent most of his leisure time in New Zealand investigating the country^ plant life. After botamsms; in the Bay of Islands, he went to the Nelson Province, and finally went to Canterbury, where he was the friend of Sir Julius yon Haast, on a geographical and botanical survey of the Southern Alps'. In 1861 lie tried to cross the .Rangitata, and getting into 'difficulties was drowned in it. His foody was buried close to the place where it was recovered..
