JNews has been received here that SirErnest- Rutherford has been given tut ro^ Sh of Physics at Cambridge,, the highest -.scientific aplworid ln the E^i^h-speakinQ He was on the' Imperial Board of Munitions set up by the British Government and in that capacity rendered signal service. He also was able to give material aid to the United States m connection with submarine and other services.

■ Sir'E. Rutherford was at the Nelson ■ College from 1887 to 1889,. and was a member of the XV. in the latter year. Amongst other notable achievements he* was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1908 He was born at Havelock.
