WIDESPREAD UNEASINESS
A SECOND MEMORIAL
(United Service.)
(Received April 13, 5.5 p.m.)
London, April 10. Four hundred members of the House of Commons have now signed the message to Mr Lloyd George urging the dullest indemnities. Mr Lloyd. George's reply has not allayed the Parliamentary uneasiness, which is based on various reports and rumours from Paris. .
Two hundred members are signing another hurried memorial to Mr Lloyd George, stating that they have learned with great concern of the 'proposal of the Conference to recognise the Bolshevist Moscow Government and urging the British representatives to refuse to sign such a recognition. "The Times," in a leader, states that the indemnity memorial reveals ■an overwhelming British feeling against the Conference's vacillation fnd perversity in handling the question. We must compel Germany to acknowledge her reliability. If Germany is unable to suggest a means of payment we must choose.
The "Daily Mail" says pubiij opinion is most profoundly .alarmed. If Germany does not pay; the Britlsn will he burdened "with taxation For. generations. "the nation s taxed to the extent of nine hundred million annually, and there is no rensoji why the aggressor should not Oe taxed en ih© same scale.
