A case of interest to motorists came before Mr J. S. Evans, S.M., at the last sittings of the" Magistrate Court at Motuekn. Charles F. Ivory and James W. "McCarthy were each charged with having driven a motor car in High street'on the evening of March 29th, the registration number .of which was not easily distinguishable. Constable Mitchell, wlrtTproseeuted urged that it, iwas necessary to.ha'-v.e lights so placed sis to illumine the registered number on the car. He stated that in the case against McCarthy, the registered number on the back was obscured by the ] tyres and that he had previously warned defendant. On the present occasion, he had had to strike a match and look downwards to observe the number. The Magistrate {Mr J. S. Evans, S.M.) said there was nothing in the section to compel a motorist to show a light on his number plate. All he had to do was to keep the number plate clean and not allow it to become obscure. He dismissed the charge, against Ivory; but ifhposed a fine of 20s, with 7s costs, in the case of McCarthy whose number plate on the car was obscured by the tyres. ~ Many electors so far may not have made up their minds on which side to vote on Thursday nest.
