CABLES AND WIRELESS.

Sydney, April 4. At the annual meeting of the Australian section of the Empire Press Union the report referred to the difficulties in cable communication. There was an increasingly urgent need for a duplication of the Pacific cable between Vancouver and Fanning Island. The chairman, referring to the likelihood of direct wireless communication between Australia and Europe in the near .future, said that whether it was practicable for press purposes remained to be seen, but the least it could do would much relieve the pressure on the cable lines.
