ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION

Wellington, March 20

A. most enthusiastic reception was given this' morning to 748 officers and xnen who .returned by the Atlienic, and to 184 soldiers' wives who came out by the vessel. The weather was fine,^ and the general public turned out in thousands. The steamer came alongside •King's wharf shortly before eight, and :b!ie landing arrangements were carried out without a hitch. The Civil Service girls' choir, the Patriotic Society's Band, and the Salvation Army Band .took part. The soldiers' wives were entertained ftb morning tea at 'the Town Hall by the Mayoress, and the men at the Returned Soldiers' Club. Thp southern men leave by the Mararoa. and the following Nelson men by the Nikau: — Lieutenant Wright. Q.M.S. Payne. Private Perkins.
