ST. MARY'S CHURCH.
INTERIOR IMPROVEMENTS.
(From "The Colonist," Feb. 27th.)
A considerable improvement in the interior of St. Mary's Church has lately been effected by replacing all the lower windows with stained glass. The new windows were designed and executed by Messrs. Hardman and Co., of Birmingham —a firm whose work has reached a high plane in art development. The subjects chosen are well known saints of various periods of church history, and the' artist's conception of them is exceptionally fine. Character and expression are given to these figures in a most realistic manner, and features of the saints' lives are skilfully embodied. The colour tones are very rich and varied, giving to the whole a handsome and exclusive appearance. The following saints are . represnted,.:—St. Monica, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Paschal Bay lon, St. Theresa, St. Alphonsus, St. John, St. Mary Magdalen, St. Patrick, St. Edward, St. Michael, and Blessed Peter Chanel. Two of the windows serve as memorials to Father Garin and Dean Mahoney, while four are in memory of deceased parishioners—Michael and Elizabeth Hodgens, Charlie McDonald. William O'Conner, and Lieutenant Alan Sham. The remaining five wore presented by Messrs. L. J.Frank, Larmer, Hodgens, "(•(•.h-'.v. a-id i^Ki.-atrifrk. Altogether the windows are very devotional, and create a markedly- religious atmosphere.
