ROAD BOARDS.
I STOKE. | The monthly meeting of the Stoke 'Koad Board was held on Saturday Present: Messrs. A. P. Allport (chair"lan)' T. B. Cbisnall, H. T. Palmer, ; F r . W. O. Smith, and H. T. Cook. !Mr A. Tosswill was excused from attendance. ■ The overseer reported inter alia as follows :—Stoke: Ploughing and scoopmg had been done on Sanders's bank, baxon s road. He advised that Parker s road be gravelled and the ditch widened. Appleby: Bell's road had been gravelled, and low lying places filled up with soil. Haycock's road required attention. Hope: Hart's hill should be lowered, the metal removed to be used for filling in on Birkett's road. The Public Works Department forwarded "New Zealand Gazette" containing notice of the exemption of Hursthouso's road from the provisions of section 117 of the Public Works.Act 1908. From E. E. Burrell, Tahunanui, asking when section from which gravel had been removed woitW-be filled.—Left to overseer. From Messrs Fell, Jackson and Rout, Nelson, asking the board to take steps to prevent cattle knocking down the banks of ditches at Tahunanui, thereby interfering with drainage.— Referred to overseer. r From the Nelson Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, asking for any cases of destitution caused by the influenza epidemic.—lt was stated by members that so far as could be ascertained there were no such cases in the district. From Messrs .Fell, Jackson and Rout, enclosing cheque for £25 towards cose of drainage at Tahunanui., A letter was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs, stating that each local body had 1 full liberty to make its own arrangements for tho peace celebrations.—Received. From the county clerk, enclosing letter From the Public Works Department re bridge over the Roding river as requested by Mr. G. S. Haycock.—Resolved, that settlers be asked if a stock bridg-o would meet their requirements, the department undertaking to provide £280 free towards the cost on certain conditions. ■From the Tahuna Progressive Association, enclosing resolution asking the board if it is aware that the pan system has been installed at the school, that the -night-soil is being ljuried in the township, and asking the board to fully iinvestigate tho matter. —The secretary to interview the Health Inspector; From, the Department of Lands and Survey, informing the board that the chairman had been appointed a mem-1 ber of the Rabbit Island.'
