STRUCK BY A STRAY BULLET.

A serious accident of a peculiar character happened on the Wangamoa hill °/n luesday afternoon to a man named! lhomas Henry Martin, residing in Waimea street, who was driving through' to the Canvastown races with a companion named James Ryan. As they •were ascending the hill Martin suddenly threw up his hands, and it was found that he had been shot through the skull by a stray bullet, evidently fired by a shooting, party on the hills. Ryan immediately returned to town with*the unfortunate man, and he was taken to the Hospital in a serious condition. His injuries consisted of a compound fracture of the skull, and an operation was performed on New Year's Day. On inquiry last night it was learned that Martin was progressing as well as could be expected, considering the nature of his injuries.
