ANNUAL BUIiB SHOW
The annual bulb show in connection wxth the Trinity Presbyterian Church was opened by the Mayor (Mr. AY AT S-nodgrass) yesterday afternoon, and was continued in the evening, when there wasjv large-attendance of the ■public. The display of -flowers was escei,l<r n.t? «nd the general quality of the exhibits was of a high standard. Tho blooms m ih Q daffodil section were mai;mneent, and their even quality caused competition for,tho ■ awards to be keen ■llie eftofctiv-enees of the display was -enhanced by tho table dippings; which v.-ere of hrown aud irreen, and these showed tho goldwi blooms off to advantage. In a^'ditioa to the daffodils, there v.-as a fine show of anemones and other buibons blooms, besides other cut flowers pnd nunierous tastefully decorated baskets-of flrnvers Thei'e was also a large entry for the best decorated table, and the t-xhibitors displayed conjsiderabie artistry in the arrangements I and designs. Mr. D. M. Bradbury, of Christchureh was the judge, but owing to his lato arrival from Blenheim, consequent upon a flooded river, he- was not ableto commence Ins task until after the show was opened. In conversation, Mr. Bradbury said that for individual exhibits the show of narcissi was the imest he had scon, and generally thedisplay was of a very high class.' Ho was struck with the large number of expensive varieties that were staged Iho specimens of Leedsii, Bernardino, and AY hite Quoon, to mention some only of the kinds represented, werti very good indeed. The hyacinths and ■stocks were oi" a quality unexcelled in ms experience, and it 'was evident to him that, Nolscm growers were not only favoured by exceptional climatic conditions, hut aav<; tho best attention to 'the ci.utjvn.tion of the flowers (o which they devote] their efforts. The onl\ fault that Mr. Bradbury could find was that sonic or the narcissi v.ore on the coarse sido on :if(-ount of oveivcneroiis. treatment.
