In twenty yeans' timo : N.Z. will be almost entirely dependent on this timber for all purposes, for the reason—our native forests will be cut out, and there,is no other timber we can plant now which will be ready in the time. It does not take a very largo tree to cut 1000 ft. At 6s. per 100 ft. this works out at £3 per tree. In practice it is found the cost of felling the tnee* and trimming logs is more than covered by the value of the cones and branches for firewood. Plant Pines for profit.^—Kingsland, Vppl-^y.*
