REPORTED CAPTURE OF MOEUVRES.

New York, Sept.,4. British troops have reached the Canal dv Nord, and have captured Ecourt St. Quentin. : It is reported that the British have captured, Moeuvres. The Germans are retreating faster. North-east of 'S'oissons a hattle is raging. The Germans are vigorously defending Pont Rouge plateau and the Laon railway. * The Americans are attacking. Several villages are in flames. The British have reached a mile east of the Canal dv Nord. Prisoners admit that they were ordered to hold the. canal at any cost.! Neuville and Bourjonval have been! surrounded. j Lens is still German, though the ; British hold- the western outskirts. Gas alone prevents British occupation of tho town. | j The Germans are retreating east off the Canal dv Nord, facing the French.! while the northern section are endeavouring to- withstand the British. The British captured Demicourt and Bumancourt, and are advancing. In the Lys salient they captured I Nieppe, Croix dv Bac, and Leromartin. i
