New York, Sept. 1
President Wilson hag" issued a Labour D-ay message in which, after reviewing German aiais arid methods, he says:— "The world cannot be safe, men's lives, smirc, or their-rights' asserted so long, as governments like those which drewl Austria '.and Germany into the warare permitted to control the destinies of men and nations. It is a war m which^industry must sustain the army. Labourers at home are as essential, as fighters in .'the battle. To fail to win would imperil- everything that the la-n bourer has1 striven for and held dear' since freedom first was had.
"Let us make this a day of consecral--ton in which we devote ourselves, without pause or limit, to setting our country and the world free; The nation is of a.single" mind, taking counsel with no special class, serving no private or single interest. We realise, cs we never realised before, that we are comrades, dependent ripon o^gfanother.. "We are irresistible when united, and powerless when divided.. So join hands and lead the world'to a ne\yer and better day."
(Received Sept. 2," 8.30 p.m.)
The President ;tells organised labousr that .every is a weapon which if abandoned will render1 rifles useless in Franco. This war is as rauch a workmen's war as » soldiers' war. The sol-, diers at the front know/that this is so, and the^nowledge, steels tkeir muscles.. They are Grusqders. -
