ENEMY RETREATING IN CONFUSION.
The Allied attack south of the Somme has attained' unprHoeriented success. The British. French, and Americans pressed on vigorously at ail points, the <-nemy retiring ia confusion. Chaulnes, Montdidier, and a host of village have been captured, the maximum advance excending eleven miles Since August Bth ( 25,000 prisoners and over 400 guns have been captured. Ttie enemy's losses are very great, while those of the Allies aiv slight. The Germans in the.angle 3f the Somme and the Ancre are in great peril. The battie is spreading north of Arras, and the enemy are retreating on the Planders front.
