LOSSES OF SHEEP.

From reports to hand it appears that a considerable number of sheep "were lost in the lower part of the; Appleby district, Messrs O'Connor. Bros, in particular, being heavy, losers. They also lost a fine .crop of lucerne hay which had been cut ready for harvesting. In tliat portion of the district a party from Mapua in a rowboat-1 were able to get within a quarter of a "mile of the Appleby Post Office. It was possible to -cross the lower paddocks without having recourse to the gates the boat floating over the fences. There was about a foot of,'water in the Post Office.
