MILITARY SERVICE.
AN -INTERNATIONAL QUESTION
(United Press Association.}
Wellington, March 6. Tiie Minister of Internal Affairs, refemng^to the question of the conscription of British subjects residing in certain .Allied countries, said that advice had been received that agreements l;ad been entered into on the subject between the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Russia. A recent press cable-had indicated that an. agreement had been made with the United States. So far, however, official advice has not been received respecting this agreement. Provision is made in each agreement that if persons liable to service refuse after due notice to return to their own country they may be compelled to undertake military service in the country of their residence, unless they can furnish documents delivered by their diplomatic or consular authorities certifying their exemption from military service. It is suggested that those interested should, if in doubt as to their responsibilities, communicate v.itl; tho British Ambassador resident in the country in which they are residing, at present.
