Mr W. S. Spence, who ht'ld the position of assistant secretary to the Auckland Racing Club, has been appointed secretary to the club in succession to the late Mi- J. F. Hartland

Mrs W. Smith aad her three daughters, of the New Zealand Government teaching staff at Rarotonga, are touring New Zealand, and have completed their North Island trip.

Mr J. W. Kinzett, Vanguard street, has received word that his son. Private F. W. Kinzett, was transferred to VV alton-on-j. names Hospital on February 22nd. This young soldier was reported gassed and admitted to hospital in France on February 16th.

Lieutenant-Colonel N. Rish'worth, of the New Zealand Dental Corps and on old boy of Nelson College, has been appointed to the staff of Queen's Hospital Kent. Ihe cases at this hospital are exclusively those suffering from taciai and jaw wounds.

Mr F. J. Eades, of Nile street East has received cable advice that his son, Private Frank Bades, has received his [discharge in England, and is expected to arrive in New Zealand shortly. Private Eades left with the Seventh Keintorecements, and was gassed in the bomme battle, afterwards receiving treatment in Brockenhurat Hospital.

Ihere was a large attendance of business men at Christchurch on the occasion of a presentation to Mr A Stedman, who has retired from the [position of manager in Christchurch of the Bank of JS Tew South Wales after 51 years' service with the Bank. The presentation took the form of a solid silver salver, with appropriate inscription* and there was also a solid silver tea,, kettle and spirit lamp for Mrs Stedman.

It is notified in the ''Gazette" of February 28th^Lieutenant W. J. Stone vsmce deceased) had been promoted to be captain on September 19th last. The late Captain Stone, who was the eldest son of Mr J. Stone, of the Reservoir, left with the Fourth .
