Eight youths charged at Sligo Courthouse for ■ participation in an unlawful assembly, refused to remove their hatE and began smoking. They sang Irish freedom songs. . ,

The Magistrate demanded an apology

One of the youths said he did not rer gard any representative cf the British Constitution.

The Magistrate imposed a sentence of seven days' imprisonment for contempt of Court.

The prisoners thereupon threw themselves on the floor. While the police were attempting to remove them the crowd in Court became threatening, and a detachment of military was summoned.

The prisoners were carried out to n lorry and removed to gaol amidst a scene of great excitement.
