CATTLE TICKS.
j Some concern has been felt lately by {'North Island farmers at the presence i among cattle, horses, dogs, and occa--1 sionaUy sheep, of a species of tick. Questioned on the subject Dr. C. J. ißeakes (Director of the Live Stock Di- ; vision of the Department of Agriculture) said that though a number of ; cattle, together with other classes or stock, in the North of .Auckland district i had been found to he harbouring ticks, | close observation and careful investigation had failed to.detect in these cattle any trace of tick fever or any form of sickness resembling it. Ticks had been found in that part of New Zealand for some years past, but during the late spring they were unusually numerous, this being considered "to be due to tho considerable duration of wet weather 'experienced being favourable to their j dissemination. These tick:; are or a j different -variety from tlio.se responsible for carrying disease in Queensland and ; America, though they are m a I Ue-d-. species, and car. o;i!y ijo^flifferentiafccd by close examination.
