FIRES.
OUTBREAKS AT CHIUSTCHUROII

Chirstchurch, Jan. 30.
A fire broke out early this morning ii* the premises of the New Zealand Coffee and Spice Company, Durham street. The outbreak occurred on the first floor, whicfci was completely gutted/ large quantities of spices being destroyed. The efforts of the brigade prevented the fire spreading to the ground floor, so all the company's stock of coffee was saved. The insurances —Stock £3300 and plant. £400 in the Northern Office; buildings, £900..in the London and Lancashire .Office!; -It is estimated that" ttir company's loss over stock is considerable, but.the buildings were rot damaged much. ■ : .'•:■■• Later in the morning a fire occurred in a block of buildings in Manchester street, next to the Excelsior Hotel. The fire started in the back of a fruit shop occupied by Miss Garland, which was badly damaged, together witb tho first floor, but the brigade prevented the fire spreading. The shop was insured for £500 in the Union of Canton Office.
