A QUESTION ASKED AND ANSWERED.

MR. G. W. HEAN INTERVIEWED,

May I ask why you have adopted the word 'Heenzo' as the registered name for Hean's Essence?" was a question put to Mr. Hean the other day. 1 am glad you asked that," was"the answer, "as it gives me an opportunity of telling readers wry I have taken a step that seems to be puzzling not a tew. Ine fact of the matter is. 1 have changed the name of Hean's Essence to Heenzo (which word I have registered as a trade-mark) in order to protect tro public against imitations of my preparation.

_ "The success achieved by Hean"s: Essence has brought to li z hfc Quito a number of people who are seeking to make money at the expense of the public: and myself. There, have been discovered no less than seven imitators at work putiiig up inferior substitutes. ff > they had put ur> a cough mixture essence' bearing their own name I would have had no quarrel witk them, but m every instance they adopted a fictitious name of one syllable only so that it micht easily bo confused with my name. Against some of these I have obtained New Zealand Supreme Court injunctions restraining them from further infringement of my rights. Others have discontinued imitating Hean's PJssenoe without having to go to court.

"The trado-markins of the word 'Heenzo'. and its appearance on tho cartons and bottles of all my preparations in future, will safeguard buyers against piracy. It is worthy of mention ju&t here that several of the imitations of Hean's Esence- were such in name only. Upon analysis they wero found to be largely composed of paregoric and laudanum, extracts of +bo deadly habit forming opium drug, tho inclusion of -which in couch mixtures for family uso cannot be too strongly, discouraged.

"I ,l:ope the public v.'ill fully realise the importance of availing themselves of the protection which tho trade-mark 'Heenzo' will- afford them. Of course, there is ctill a. "-o^d rlonl of jrpruime Hcan's Essence distributed through tho country which does nob bear tho trademark, name on the cartons and labels; but this will soon all be used up, and tho name 'Heenzo' will quickly become, as familiar as Hoan's Essense is now."

Heenzo (Hean's Essence) is sold by mostchemists and stores, or sent promptly post frpf> on receipt of price, 2s, from Hoan's'Pharmacy, Wangahui.
