(From our Parliamentary Correspondent.)
Wellington, Oct. 5. A passage of arms occurred in the House of Representatives to-day between two Liberals, and was a source of ovider.t enjoyment to members on tho Reform benches. Mr McCallum arraigned the Minister of Education on a "number of oounts, and added, "He has never assisted my djptrict, bub has done all he could to injure it." Mr Hanan: The honourable gentleman wished me to remove a school in his. district. There is a dispute between the MoCallumites and the iVlasseyitcs over the location of this school." 1 went into it with my departmental officers and, in accordance with my dtvty to do what is best in the interests of the district, I turned down his request. The Minister also said that when the question of house allowance for himself as an honorary Minister came up, Mr McCallum sent him a note saying that unless he agreed to the request, he (Mr McOallum) would block tho house allowance. Reform members : Shame I Mr McCallum : * Maladministration was only one of the things in my mind. And when tho Minister said it -was a, question of McCallumites v. Ma&so-y----ites he was talking absolutely^ at random. After further interchanges the air slowly cleared of the battle smoke.
