RED CROSS SPECIAL APPEAL.
LA BO UK DAY CARNIVAL.
A combined meeting of Retailers and .members of the Rod Cross Committee was held at the H.B. rooms last night, Lo make arrangements ior the iunction in the Provincial Grounds on Monday, the 22nd inyfc. (Labour Day), in aid of the Kod Cross "Our Dny'' special appeal. Thero was a good attendance, and a number of promises of help were received. Mrs W. Lock was voted to tho chair.
It was decided, on the motion of j\lrl F. N. Jone.-., to hold a procession in the! form of a sedan chair and x billy-cart po'"ndo.
■ Prizes were offered at follovvs;—Mr E. Allan, 10s for best decorated bill^- | c.ivt, and 10s tor largest amount securied by sales from a cart or chair; JNJr W. Lock, "os for most'original-billy-cart and 5s for most original chair; Mr B. j Trathen, ICs for best decorated chair;! Mr F. N. Jones, "jOs for best- hard-upi billy-cart; Mrs Jacka, ■ 10s for best hard-up chair. I A donation of the benzine cases re- ' quired was promised. Admission to the Provincial Grounds will be by silver coin in the affcernoqn and on payment of not less than sixpence in the evening. At night there will be a battle of flowers and confetti, with a masked parade, and dancing on the green; a j procession, of children in fancy dress'; and supper in the Provincial "rlall.
y It was decided to solicit the, help of other sections that took part in the recent Daffodil Queen Carnival.
It was resolved to make a street collection on Saturday, the 20th mst.; also in aid of the "Our Day" appeal. There will be another meeting on Monday evening, the Bth inst.', to further the arrangements.
