Auckland, Aug. 31. A conference of the North "Auckland Development Board carried a - remit that the time has arrived when all enemy aliens should be conscripted for service at the front or service on public works at war rates of pay; that no further purchases of property by enemy aliens be permitted; and "that applications for transfers be refused till after the war.

It was resolved to urge the Government to raise a special loan* of a million for the purpose of carrying out a comprehensive scheme of development advocated by the board.

The Wanganui Borough Council has invested £4720 of sinking fund moneys in the War Loan.

The Greymouth "Star" states that a local electrician has designed a carburettor to operate motor car engines on. common kerosene in place of petrol. He has been at work on the idea for four years, and the tests have lieon so satisfactory that he has decided to give a demonstration. Tho great .advantage claimed is that it. is always ready to start, no primary 'heating ■apparatus being required. ' The idea is being protected by letters patent.

An American firm is now engaged m making electric motor cars, the engine of which is designed to develop .5 to 2-h.p., according to the load. The motor is geared directly to fhe axle of the front wheel with a triple worm ■'which permits the motor to propel the car up a 15 per cent, grade when loaded with two adults. Extending in front of the car is a guard which breaks the circuit between the batteries and motor and applies the brake when it comes into contact with any obstacle.

Some months ago at least one young First Division man was able to make out such a good case to tho Military -Appeal Board that he was granted a considerable extension of time (says the Manawatu "Standard"). These incidents do not escape the notice of those knowing nil the circumstances, with the result that in the case under notice .the Palmerston Efficiency Trustees have been put in possession of certain facts that will probably result' in f'avmg the appeal reopened at an early date. -
