RICHMOND FAIR DAY.

August 14. . Lovely weather was experienced for the Trades Day at Richmond on Saturday, and a very successful day w^s the result. Sports and competitions were held for the children during the afternoon, all being entered into heartily by the kiddies. Tbe decorated barrow and pram, parade for cluldrcn was a good item, some 14 children taking part.

For tho trade section "Masters Croueher and Watson scored a goo<i win ■with a splendidly got up baker's turnout, crammed, with delicious-looking cakes, pies," etc., which were afterwards soon disposed of. Master Max Lusty ('grocer") was second with a thoroughly well got up grocer's -barrow; well laden with tobacco, cigarettes, efce. These .were also soon sold out

The decorative section was won by M. Seabrook with a pretty pram, ornamented with green with white .snowfiakes." Olive Wearing's barrow of daffodils was second, and a team of two barrows in charge of Phyllis and Mavis Lammas, and Florrie and Master Hawkins was.third." Tin's team was done in black and gold, and looked well. The vhole of. the exhibits were ; good, arid deserved credit ior the way they wero got up. Nurse Sloan, of Nelson; was judge. . The stalls did good business during the afternoon, and in the evening a largo lorry decorated and illuminated with Chinese lanterns, paraded the •streets, headed by the National Reserve Band, and good business" was done by the auctioneer and his clerk.

The National Reserve Band played during the afternoon, and added to the enjoyment of the day.

Tho Farmers' Candidate Committee held a hard-up social and dance at the Oddfellows' Hall on Friday evening. A very enjoyable, time wa-s spent by those who attended. During the ' evening songs were contributed by Misses Thomas and Kingsland and Mr W. Crouch, recitations by Miss Win and Messrs Smith and Lestor, a pianoforte ■solo by Miss Hunter, and a step dance by Mr W. Crouch. Music for the dancing was played by Miss Claridge and Messrs Pappis. Grant, and Challies. Mr J. Huni, on behalf of tho Lady Liverpool Fund Committee, thanked those yrho had assisted in the evening's enjoyment.

A very successful sale of farmers' gifts was held at the- Richmond saleyards on "Wednesday. The Farmers' Candidate Committee thank those who pent in stock and produce for the sale, and also Messrs Bisley Bros, and Co. for their cervices during the sale.
