TAKAKA.
(From Our Own Correspondents.)
August 8 A special anniversary service was held in the Oddfellows?, Hall on Sujtiday evening to mark the entry of Great Britain into the fourth year of war with the Central Powers. The hall was packed from stage to gallery, and the proceedings were marked by a universal seriousness.
The Rev. E. Kedgley (Presbyterian) occupied the cfcair, and was supported on the platform by the Rev. F. J. Daynes (Anglican), Mr. A. E. Langford (Church of Christ), and Mr. Gdorge Winter, chairman of the Takaka County Council.
The two ministers made splendid use of tfceir subject, and were listened to with great attention by the audience. Seldom if ever before in Takaka have two finer addresses been delivered from the samo platform on any one occasion. Tre hymns, which were all appropriate to the occasion, were sung heartily by all to the music of an orchestra consisting of organ, euphonium and cornet.
At the conclusion of the service Mr. George Winter moved tho resolution to continue the war to a successful end. This was seconded by Mr. A. E. Langford, and carried unanimously by all present upstanding.
Altogether the proceedings were of a very serious and fervent nature, quite in accord with the spirit of tte nation in the present world crisis.
The local Territorials and Cadets, and representatives of the Mounted Rifles and returned soldiers paraded as a body in uniform, giving a military touch to the proceedings.
