DIVISION,
A Melbourne lady has received from a soldier at the front the text of an address delivered by the German Emperor to the troops of the Third Guard Iniantry. Division when they were first brought to the Western theatre of tha war in May, to oppose the first Anzac corps -in the Kullecourt sector. ■ After referring in.particular to Mio successes ot the Lehr Infantry Regiment and the Ivolbergers in the Carpathians the Kaiser uttered the following striking sentences:—-You will meet here a foe ■who hghts differently. He-1 is tougher more obstinate, skilful, and intelligent. He is defending every inch of tJie countryj and we hold him in deep respect I tor that. His resistance is desperate inrb it must -be broken, lie.has made ins bed and must now lie on it, and yon will help mo force- him to it.' Let' u.s hope- that the appearance of tho 3rd fauard Division will ero Ions; make him realise the type of soldier he has to deal with, and may God, who lias stood by each of you -v many a dark hour, lead us on to victory and to the >-,ojk>o w- ***■ desire. .. . .1 need your fielj, for
