The enemy forced the Roumanians toj retire south-west of Mon'a. A later report states that the enemy's partial offensive in the direction of j Brody was a complete failure. They were everywtere repulsed with great losses. We- spelled; attacks in the Sereth and. Suchara valleys. After stubborn battles south-west of the Okna the Roumanians were forced to retire five versta. j The enemy developed an offensive ' west-of Focsani-Mereshestchi railway, \ : and compelled us to retjro across the i Susitza. Wo repelled attacks eastward of the railway. The battle is,pro-1 ceeding. Counter-attacks last night enabled us | jto recross in places on the south bank j iof the Susitza. . i

A Roumanian communique dated August 10th reports that the RussoRoumanians are maintaining their positions in various areas, and inflicting heavy losses, despite repeated prolonged and powerful, attacks, accompanied by asphyxiating gae.

The Russians captured prisoners and machine guns, the enemy fleeing in dis-

order.
