COAL CONTRACTS.

Wellington, May 30. A conference was held between nienrbors of the Government and owners of f/o'alnnnc.s. Sir James Alien subsequently stated that the owners had come to see the .Government because of difficulties experienced' in carrying but contracts owing to the increase in prices. The outcome of the interview was that the Attorney-General would consider what powers the Government possessed in dealing -with private contracts, and the Minister- for Railways would consider*the question of contracts for the.railways.
