PRICE OF COAL.

Iv discussing with a deputation from Takapuna tie proposed curtailment of the tramway and ferry service to the district, the Hon. E. *Mitchelson, chairman of directors of the Takapuna. Tramways and Ferry Company, stated that the cost of coal had been increased from 19s per ton to 35s 3d. It was almost certain, he added, that after the conference to be held in Wellington next week between the coalowners and the representatives of the Coalminers' Federation the price of coal would be further increased. While the coal dealers were in a position to pass on any such increase in cost to their customers the tramway company was prevented by its deed "of delegation from doing likewise.
