The Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London, ■sth May, 1917, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. (Note.—Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot) :— Meat: Prices are' now higher for home-killed mutton and English lambs owing to small supply of all descriptions of frozen meat. . Home-killed •: :beef ,m fair supply; New Zealand mutton, per ]b, S 7-8 d; ewe mutton, 8-i-d; Argentine/ mutton; small supplies, 10d: Argentine' lamb, lOd; Argentine lamb, ltd; Patagonian, l^d; - North American lamb, 141-d; Argentine chilled beef, hinds, ll|d; fores, lOd. Butter: The .market has a firmer tone since last report. Danish butter, 204s to 2OSs; New Zealand butter, salted, 204s to 2065; unsalted, 204s to 208s; Australian, salted, 190s to 1945; unsalted, 192s to 196s ; . Irish creamery, 190s to 1945; Argentine, salted, 186s to 188s; unsalted, 188s to 1925. Cheese: Market continues firm. I Canadian, white and coloured, 1625:! States flats, 1.605. Estimated Canadian and States. cheese stocks London, Liverpool, and Bristol 23,000 boxes, against 74,000 at the same time last year. New Zealand cheese, Port of Liverpool official figures give stock as 6700 crates. Hemp: Market quiet but firm. Government are now considering Manila freight charges. No Manila offering. iSew Zealand, quotations are nominal. Sellers ask for fair on spot £80. Wheat: Market firm with more inquiry.
