BELGIAN BANKS RAIDED.

MONEY AND SECURITIES STOLEN,

(Australian and N.Z. Cable Association)

Amsterdam, May 8

Falkenhausen ordered a general raid on safes and the Belgian bank vaults, where hundreds of millions in each, bonds, and jewellery were deposited before the war. Belgian safemakers refused to supply workmen to help to open the safes, and Falkenhausen thereupon telegraphed to Germany to send workmen, fearing to blow up the safes lest he should destroy the contents.

The Belgians hope that the Allies will seize German money in Ajnoriean and Allied banks.
