October 24. The Anglican Synod resump.l on Friday.
Mr C. AA*. Brown moved, and Archdeacon Kempthorne seconded, that before an application be made to Synod or the Standing Committee for the sale or exchange of Church lands, or forthe diversion of the income derived from such lands, such application must be referred at least two months prior to the meeting of the Synod or the Standing Committee to the Nelson Diocesan Trust Board for their consideration and report.—Carried.
The Rev. H. B. AVhite moved: "That in the opinion- of the Synod, it is in the best interests of the OhurcL. in this diocese that Synod meet not later than the 31st August in-each year."
Seconded by Mr AA^. B. North.
Rev. A. H. Heron moved as an amendment, seconded by Mr AY. York, that the Bishop be respectfully requested to summon-Synod not later than 31st August in each year.
The amendment was carried
On the President's motion, seconded by Archdeacon Kempthorne, it was resolved to send greetings to the Christchurch Synod, now in Session.
Some amendments were made in the Cathedral Erection Bill, and the Bill passed its third reading.
A ren. Archdeacon Kempthorne "moved, and Dr. Mackay seconded: "That this Synod hereby "places on record its sense of the valuable services rendered to the Church by the late Right Rev. AA 7. L,' -AVilliams, D.D., formerly Bishop of AA Taiapu; as a student of the Maori' language, translator, and a compiler; as an authority upon the laAvs and customsoofif the Church and their application to our problem; as a faithful minister of God for very maty years to tion to our problems; as a faithful friend highly esteemed and AMlued by many "persons throughout New Zenland." ....... •
Bishop Mules and ethers spoke appreciatively of the deceased's Bishop's Avorb, and the motion was put and agreed to, all the members standing. At the evening session the reports of the Sessional Committees on Trusts and Parochial Returns were presented. The report of the Foreign Missions Committee was adopted. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr E. E. Boyes, seconded by Archdea con York: "That this Synodrecord the faithful and self-sacrificing Avork done by the ReA rs. Taylor, Dobson, and Coursey amongst our soldiers at the front."—Carried with acclamation.
The following were elected as the Standing Committee- — Archdeacon Grace, Archdeacon Kempthorne, Rev. Dr. Weeks, Revs. J. R. Dart and A. J. Carr; Messrs C. W. Brown, F. H. Richmond, G. E. C. Saxton, Wilson Heaps, and Dr. Mackay.
The folloAviug were elected as the Foreign Missions Committee:—Archdeacon Kempthorne, Rev. Dr. AVeeks, Roys. J. R: Dart and A. J. Carr; Messrs 0. AA'. Brown, AVilson Heaps, J. F. Childs, and Dr. Mackay. The-Synod adjourned at 10 p.m.,
