A PLEASANT FUNCTION

On Sunday afternoon the boys of the GoA;eniment training ship Amokura Avere iTJArited -to. •afternoon tea. bj' tlie members of the Nelson Baptist Young AVo■men.'s ami ■ -Young- Men's Bible Classes. jSome sixty boys, accompanied by their j chief officer, Mr Bairnsdale, responded Ito the invitation Notwithstanding the | short notice and it being the Nelson I Baptist Sunday School anniversary slay, ithe arrangements were splendidly carried out. Over 100 sat down to enjoy the good things provided. The i programme, though impromptu, consisted of vocal .luets by Misses Chapman and Constable, Misses- BradshaAv and Miller, and solos by Misses Baigent %and Bradshaw and Mr Eramett. i The A rariotis items were tastefully rendered and heartily appreciated by" those present. " "' : ' '.'; TTie Key. AA T. E. Lambert, in a neat, happy speech, thanked the boys for their actendanco, and assured them of the pleasure it afforded one and all to meet them. Mr T. Pettit, as superintendent of the Sunday School, also Avelcomed them ; after AA-hich Mr Bairns-j ci-ile suitably responded. The hour and; a half thus spent in a homely and soci-] able manner, during which many of thei boys' favourite hymns were sung, was' brought to a close by the singing ofl "God Save the King,""and three hearty' cheers for ".the Airmkura boys," Avho^ responded witli. three cheers for those- ■ responsible for the kindness ehoAvn them.
