BURNT WITH SULPHURIC ACID.

THIRTEEN MEN INJURED

Auckland, Sept. 7. While watersiders were handlings drums of sulphuric acid on the steamer Monowai to-night, one of the drums burst at the bung, throwing the aci<J; in a stream for about 20ft. Five of the watersiders who were endeavouring to avoid the fumes slipped to the deckj «s did a number of others who rushed to their assistance. As a result thirteen men were burned by the acid, eight being now inmates of the hospital, while five were treated as outpatints. The men in the Hospital are bnrned about the body, five seriously. They include % Chief Officer McLean, of the Monowaf, the remainder being j watersiders. McLean is not seriously [injured. The most seriously injured are Coutts, a singlo man, and Falkner, v/ho is married.
