SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP.

One of the most exciting matches for the final of the clnb championship seen for seveyal seasons, was that played between ti. C. Cock and G. Richmond last week. The round was closely contested, and brought forth good golf from both players, and at the end of the 18 holes neither player could claim an advantage. Richmond's score showed 79, and Cock's 80;

Setting out for the final round, the play was bright and exciting. Cock foxind casual water with his ■drive, and a short second gave his opponent, who placed his second within ten yards of the pin, the advantage. Both "were on the green in three, and Richmond holing his putt, won the hole in 4 to 5. Richmond 1 up. Two fine drives were got away at No. 2, and good seconds saw both within easy reach of the hole. Cock placed a stymie on his opponent, who vas content to play for a, half in 5. At "The Cliffs" two'long drives were sent out. Cock was short with his second, but Richmond found the green. The former . v.vh a fine third lay dead, and the 'hoJe was halved, in 4. Richmond 1 up. "Sudden Jerk" was halved in bogey 3, but No. 5 was the scene of two fine shots. Richmond was a trifle short, and Cock, with a beauty, lay within a foot of the pin. and won the hole in 2 to ,3. All square. At - "Whale's Bade" Richmond, wi-th a long ball,' outdrove his opponent by twenty yards, but by a weak third he took fo*ur to the green, and lost the hole in 5 to 6. Cock 1 up. No. 7 saw both balls on the green in .two. Cock played the odd and lay within twelve inches of the hole. '.Richmond, ploying the like, hit his opponent's bail, and lodged it in the. tin, thus losing the hole in 3 jt-o 4. Cock 2 xip. Both players, drove wild balls at "The Warrens," but found the green with their seconds. Cock made a .bad putt, which cost him the hole in 4 to 5. Cock 1 up. Xo. Y2 was halved in 4. At this stage the play was getting very exciting, and.both players could ill afford.to lose a vshot. "'Waterloo" saw Cock slice his drive under the hill, and Richmbnd with a high ball lay on top of the ridge. Neither player hit good seconds, but Richmond'put in a stinging cleek, finding the green from well on 200 yards. Cock was short with his third, and finding the green in four, the hole was halved in bogey 6. Cock 1 up. Cock topped his ball at No. 14 to a long ball by his opponent. Both ..were short 'with their seconds, but on the green in three. Richmond lay his third within an easy putt, but Cock with the odd lay on the lip of the. tin, and almost stymied his opponent. Richmond safely negotiated and holed in 4_to 5, bringing the match all_ square. The players were now striving hard for a lead, and were over "Spion Kop" in two. Cock playing \ the odd lipped the tin and lay dead. Richmond left himself with an awkward putt, but holing nicely halved the hole in 4. AH square. "Manuka" saw both players short with their iron shots. Cock was again short with his rrashie, and Richmond ran up clqse" to the pin, and holing in.three, he won the hole. Richmond i up. The game was now getting very exciting.
